What is everyone's opinion on Lionel and MTH GP35? Who's is better? Charlie Ro has the Lionel Chessie on sale for a great price and it's pretty tempting. The only difference I noticed was that the Lionel doesn't have drainage holes in the steps, but that is not a deal breaker.

Thanks

Michael

That is and fast decision . For sure the Lionel one . The mth one does not sound that great but is very cheap and the Lionel one is a very great sounding one but cost a little more but the looks on the Lionel one makes up for the price factor . hears my you tube page a with a video of it and a lash up too hoe this helps.    PS https://www.youtube.com/channe...sdRcPPNuCxgXA/videos  and hears a video of the mth gp35 engine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmqukfYfCUQ . - Matt

I can't speak for the MTH model as I have never seen one. However, I can say that the Lionel Legacy GP35 is thing of beauty indeed. I have two of these, and am looking for a third in the near future.

They look beautiful, with crisp detail and perfect paintwork. They run like precision swiss watches, and the sound is stunning. They can also lay down a battlefield grade smokescreen if you so desire.

I ditto what Nicole stated about the Lionel Legacy GP35.  I have two and they look, sound and run great.

I don't have a Lionel GP35, but I do have an MTH non-powered version.  I would put the details for the MTH slightly behind the afore mentioned Atlas, but when next to each other, the MTH is a little "chunky", slightly wider than the Atlas model.

Here's some shot's that include the MTH GP35 (#6142)...

I picked the Atlas (#6135) up for a song ($156; new) so I had to pick it up, but paid full price for the MTH (albeit inexpensive compared to Lionel's dummy), and can't afford a Legacy set.  I have a pair that I'm ecstatic over, so I'm not looking to add to it, and after swapping out the generic RS for EMD specific (see my post here: Specific Railsounds), this trio sound as good as they look.

BTW... The TMCC1 GP30 in the 3rd position is there because it doesn't have the see-through pilot foot boards like the other two, but sounds fantastic!

Thanks,

 - Mario.

Legacy wasn't in the question either.  I have six of the Atlas( Two different Erie Lackawanna paint schemes  , one of the Lionel ( Erie Lackawanna of course ) and two of the MTH ( Reading).  Atlas hands down has the best detailing and runs and sounds great.  The Lionel sounds better than the rest but I still like the Atlas the best

Here is the Lionel
