My old GP7

I've had a Lionel Santa Fe #8263 GP7 on the shelf for years. I never ran it since it had no power and no traction whatsoever. I happened across one at a train show this summer that had the chassis swapped out for one with a pullmor motor. I bought it and converted mine to a dummy. Lionel never had one. I removed the motor and replaced the tire wheels with plain metal ones and left the PC board in to power the light. I set up a test track on my work bench (I don't have a layout currently) and was pleased to discover that it pulls my 16 car tank train easily.

I would have swapped you an intact dummy truck for your useless motor truck!

The trucks are plastic and it's a can motor on this model. The pickups are stamped metal. It's a very cheaply made locomotive. I still have the motor and wheels if I ever want to restore it. Replacing the trucks was cost prohibitive.

The 8263 was my first diesel loco. I was in 6th grade. I was riding my bike home, and a car backed into me breaking my arm. I purchased the loco with insurance money from what I lost mowing yards that summer! I paid $50.00 for it brand new, and it was definitely played with. A great memory of my Dad... Would love to find another one. Thanks for posting!

I know! I've been looking for another motor truck for mine and would gladly trade an intact dummy truck for one.
