I've got a Williams by Bachmann scale 44 ton switcher sitting on the workbench that is in line for a repaint. I was able to remove the body shell from the chassis, but I can't figure out how to remove the center cab part to get at the windows. Has anyone ever taken one of these apart? if so, could you share some tips? It looks like the center cab should slide off the main body part.

Thanks for the help!

Galley Proof,

Look inside the shell for four small square openings at these points:

The cab has four tabs that fit into those openings:

To release the cab, squeeze the hood while expanding the cab at those points.  It's a tight factory fit and requires some force.  Clearing the tabs from the holes on one side then the other side should allow the cab to slide off the hood.

There are brush on masking compounds you might consider. Brush the windows with mask, then use paint, then wash/rub off painted mask. Thick paint coats may like edges cut smooth by exacto while barely tacky/soft so the edge doesn't "chip out" rough and unevenly.

Should disaster strike the shell for some odd reason; I think one or two alternate shells might be 3d printed for that chassis.

Good luck
