I am trying to move the sounds from the trailing A to the B unit in this set so I can make the second A powered. While trying to remove the volume pot, I destroyed it. I went to Lionel parts site and found a replacement but realized it was going to cost me about $14 with shipping. The pot will wind up inside the dummy and will need no particular mounting. So, am I correct to assume that any 10 K ohms potentiometer would suffice?
Would appreciate your thoughts.

Yes, the pot is non-critical, any 10K pot should work just fine. Truthfully, if you're just putting it inside the dummy, just tie the high side and wiper leads together and insulate the low side, no pot needed. This will give you full volume, and you'll control it from the remote the same way as new Legacy is now supplied.
Just as an FYI, there is always this option if you can find one.
