Mixed in a box of train stuff from the show I attended last week, this board is an unknown entity to me.

The sparse instructions say it was from Right-Of-Way Industries in Akron, OH, but the phone number on that document indicates it as at least 25 years old (area code was the giveaway.) When Googled, I found the same board identified as Acme 1000SU-BELL Right of Way Industries Bell Sound Unit Kit. It has a jack for a microphone and a switch labeled PLAY/RECORD. It also has several jumpers, purpose unknown. Does anybody have any more info on this board? The instructions (see PDF below) were almost useless.

Paging @Lou N!

@GeoPeg

I designed a single sound set with an OKIdata processor and an EPROM.  After those were sold out, Bill reached out to our electronics vendor and they had a demo board which could be used.  It uses an ISD die attached and wire bonded to the substrate and covered with glob top.  It is the same IC that Ott Machine Services used.

TechnoMind is long out of business.  The owner, Ken Tong, came in one day and cleaned out the bank accounts and was never seen again.

I may have one floating around on the workbench if you are interested.

On the subject of electronic die......

Ohio has been chosen for a new Intel plant to make wafers and die here in the USA.  A few weeks back Ohio's Lt Governor John Husted paid a visit to my lab class to see just how this is all done.

I found the one I have buried on the workbench.  I have the exact same thing.  I believe the jumpers selected which die was used (for time duration).  It looks like there is a MIC input to the left of the pot.  I would assume you connect a microphone there and flip the switch to record.  I will also assume the same activation connection will begin recording when jumpered.  Then return to play and activate the board again to see if it recorded.  Looks like about 12 seconds.

You are dealing with my best guesses.  I was not involved with this device.
