I am planning on going to Altoona tomorrow and was wondering if they still exist. Their Facebook hasn't been touched since last year and I don't want to go on a wild goose chase. Any help is greatly appreciated.

His store was still there a few months ago, although I have called and left messages and have not received any calls back so I am not sure what is going on. I did call during business hours too. Anyone else have any luck?
Good Evening Mr. Moore,
Tomorrow morning, I suggest you give Mr. Neely a call to be sure that he will be there. His address and phone number is 814 Green Ave, Altoona, PA 16601
(814) 942-2652
Good Evening Mr. Moore,
How did you make out regarding Neely's Train Shop?
Panther97,
Great way to spend lunch time.

I agree!
Hmmm. I would say he has a little of everything. He has a lot of new Lionel/MTH freight along with a good selection of used freight. He has a wall of older Lionel/Marx as well. Most of his locomotives are used. I've bought a few of them and I've never had a problem. He does all of his own repairs so he's able to go over each unit thoroughly before he puts it up for sale. If I want something they don't have he always manages to find it for me. I buy 90% of my stuff from Neely's Train Shop and Brady's Train Outlet.

It was awesome. I ended up walking out of there with only a bottle of smoke fluid, but I had my eye on a Lionel 2056 hudson.
Paul Moore,
I'm glad you had a good time and I'm sure Mr. Neely is pleased to have you as a customer. That 2056 post war steam engine that caught your eye, is a very good locomotive.
Careful... First they hook you with the smoke. Next thing you know you're back for the hardware and accessories!
I'll be in Altoona next week for a few days - may have to check it out

Excellent. I live in the Cresson area. If you do some railfanning in the area we may cross paths. I like to hit the Brickyard in Altoona at lunch. We watch from the platform in Cresson in the evenings....when I'm not running my kids around! I prefer some of the other railfan locations but Cresson is convenient.
That area should be nice this weekend.
how is the color up there? From friends of mine that live in the area I've noticed much hasn't popped yet

It's just starting to turn. Still a lot of green. However; there are pockets of nice colors. There was some heavy rain that came through last week and knocked some of the leaves off of our trees.
If you are driving from Pittsburgh to Altoona I'd suggest a stop in Greensburg at Brady's Train Outlet. He has a nice store as well.

I think I'll be doing it later in the day ( after work) so It will probably be well past closing time. If I get out early enough I'll try to swing by

Enjoy your trip. If you end up in the Cresson area give me a shout. It's always nice to meet railfans from around the country.
Panther97,
Which is better place to visit..Neely or Brady in your opinion. I model more MTH than the others. Some friends and I are going to be in that area in 2 weeks on the way to York and thought about stopping by one of them while visiting the area.
Thanks.
David

If you are looking for new MTH items I would go to Brady's Train Outlet. Neely has some new MTH freight. However; he has a lot more used Lionel trains compared to his MTH selection. I go to Neely for all of my used purchases and Brady for anything new that I want to buy from MTH.
Just a note. Brady has some remodeling going on at his store. If you don't see something you need let him know. He has a lot of his stuff stored upstairs until the project is complete. By they time you come through they will probably be finished.

Driving from Pittsburgh to Altoona there used to be a great train shop in Homer City. But it closed a few years ago as the owner said he wanted to retire and go fishing! Who was that guy?

I just love going to Altoona! Next time I need a case of grits from Martin's. I'm gonna hit Neely's for sure. .Any town that built the PRR 2-10-4 J...is tops in my book ! Huzzah !

Looks delicious! You certainly are enjoying your retirement but we still miss your store.

Bill, I haven't taken a fish home yet. For me it's catch, picture and release.

Jim, I only had a train around the Christmas tree when you were operating your shop. I hadn't moved to the area at that time. However; I do believe my dad purchased some trains from you in the past.
I hear folks in these parts talk about your shop often. I've never heard one negative remark. All I hear is good things. You've certainly had a positive impact on the train hobby in Central PA.
Panther 97,
Thank you.
