Does anyone know if either of the add-on PRR F3B units (non-powered 6-39547 or powered 6-39548)  have sound?  The Lionel website page for each includes the Railsounds symbol, but it seems unlikely you could have an A-B-A setup with sound in two of the units - one of the A's and the B.  Thanks.

Seems a bit redundant having two sound systems in an A-B-A. Wonder how much less expensive Lionel could have made the powered B if they hadn't added another sound system.

Maybe there wasn't much difference, given production constraints. They're really just taking the same guts from the powered A unit and putting it it in a B body, and that may have been as cheap or cheaper than producing another electronic configuration.

I disagree.  More sound= more better.

More better, and more expensive.

Not saying that (maybe more with an ABBA) an extra roaring sound unit isn't neat, just that it may not be worth the extra dough. It's pretty redundant - after all, only one bell and one whistle and one crew talk are going to be used, which just leaves diesel roar. Whether that's worth buying an entire sound system for, that depends on the person and wallet size.

I believe the sounds in the B unit are very similar to the sounds in the second A of the Vision PRR AA Centipede.  The horn is different from the horn sound in the lead A.  Most probably the diesel roar is different also although I haven't checked.  The sounds are meant to compliment each other.

Speaking for me, I'm glad it's there.  In reality I don't need the two extra motors, but I don't like a completely dummy dummy.  I like the lights, Electrocoupler, smoke option, and sound.  Powered is the only way to get that.

You're certainly right there. Lionel's dummy units without lights and electrocouplers are a real negative. I haven't heard a whole lot of complaint about lack of sound, but besides the main problems of lack of lighting and electrocoupler, it seems the biggest complaint has been about lack of smoke, which of course looks odd when running multiple engines.
