Attempting to program my new Acela engines and both trip the breaker on my 180 bricks, seeing if anyone else had this issue?

@Adrian! has an issue where debris was loose inside his Acela engines and apparently sorted one out and killed it. That may be your issue as well.
Check to make sure the rollers are not accidentally stuck up in the frame. A few of us observed that problem. As mentioned above, remove the programming cover, turn the engine upside down and shake!
Ray,
Now if you can make 20 successive loops around the track without derailing, you may be a candidate for entry into the Guinness World Records Book....(or at least write a book how you did it!)

And people were lining up to buy these sets... why?

It's simply a stunningly beautiful product with striking detail. Many modelers have travelled on this train in the Amtrak Northeast Corridor and naturally would desire it. Add to that, several masterfully edited, appealing videos on youtube make you want to order one and not miss out before they are all gone.
No one who pre-ordered had any idea that the train--for some--would have 1) loose or fallen nose cones, 2) have couplers come loose, 3) derail in continuous loop operations or 4) have rollers that may get stuck in the frame and short out. Or in my case, 5) have both engines and/or gear mechanisms fail.
The good news is that a lot of us are continuing to work on solutions to all the above issues to make sure this doesn't become an Edsel or a fabulously-looking shelf-king or -queen. (Reminder: the Edsel gained in value over the years )

Remember, there are a host of folks that are still working on all the issues of the TMCC version, and after 17 years, they're still chipping away.

I'll be grateful if I am still alive in 17 years and will gladly report back on our progress then
