Hi guys,

I have a new AIU which I bought recently, and have connected it to my DCS TIU which is powered from a 14V dc PSU. I have a HO layout, running PS3 locos.

When I wired one the outputs of the new AIU to a switch motor (details http://www.gaugemaster.com/instructions/pm2.pdf) and activated the switch, I could hear the 'click' of the AIU but nothing happened at the switch. Using a multimeter to detect any voltage at the output resulted in nothing. Even measuring voltage at the accessory outputs resulted in 0v.

Confused, I've tried powering my TIU/AIU from an 18V Ac power supply in case it was the dc supply that was causing a problem, also to no avail.

Am I doing something obviously wrong?

Help! :-)

Tom

Tom,

Am I doing something obviously wrong?

Yes, you are.

The only power the AIU gets from the TIU is for powering the AIU's relays. In order for the AIU to get power to operate a switch track or an accessory, you must provide power to the AIU's "IN" terminal for the switch track's or accessory's SW or ACC port, respectivey.

Different switch tracks and accessories connect differently to the AIU. However, from the diagram that you supplied it appears that all you need to do is provide power to the SW port's IN terminal.

This and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site! Click on the link below to go to MTH's web page for the book!

Thanks for the help Barry, funnily enough, I was thinking of your book when I came up against the problem and figured I would buy it if nothing came of this query.

As it happens, I went ahead and bought it anyway as my DCS inexperience is obviously highlighted with this simple misunderstanding!

Regards,

Tom
