Connecting Cab1L to Base3.
Thanks for posting, I have a spot all ready to go for the Base3 when it gets released.
I'm excited for the new Lionel Power/Control website to be up (sometime in January; that's what Dave said). I ordered the Base 3 and really can't wait until it arrives.
New video up today.
Appears to be straight forward installation! Going to most enjoyable…
@MartyE Question for you. My train room is located in a building detached from my house, approximately 100 feet away. The building is metal with no wifi signal from my home router being able to penetrate. I plan on trenching an Ethernet patch cable to the building and plug into an Ethernet switch in the metal building. Now, here is my question. Can I leave the switch with a USB to RJ45 adaptor and then plug into the USB port on the back of the Base 3? So, basically a hard-wired connection.
I doubt the Base3 will support a hard wired connection. What you can do is get another wifi router and plug the ethernet you are going to run into the back of the additional wifi.
You don't have to, but in that setup, you can consider configuring the 2nd router you would add to just act as a wifi access point and not a router or you'll create a 2nd network. It is easy enough to do and I believe any current wifi router you would buy should support that.

David thanks for the reply. A 2nd router never crossed my mind. I will do some research to get familiarized with the ins and outs of a router.

I agree with David. An access point is the way to go.
Marty, thanks for the informative videos. For clarification... If I get the Base 3 and connect it to my ZW-L... on a layout with 2 large loops... I can use 2 cab1L controllers, 1 to a legacy engine running on loop 1 set to 18 Volts. The second Cab1L controller to the second loop controlling another legacy engine, also set to 18 volts controlled from the cab1L remote. Each controlling their own legacy engine with each remote, independent of each other... Yes?
AND, If loop 1 is running a legacy engine with remote 1(set at 18v) ... CAN LOOP 2 be set to 18V on the ZW-L, but use the other cab 1L controller to control remotely a postwar engine through controlling variable volts through the onboard power master on the ZW-L?
I think I'm correct on the first part, it's the second part I get iffy about. So if I'm running one of my expensive vision line on loop 1, and the kids want to run loop 2 and I only want them to run conventionally through the remote a cheaper older postwar engine (so they don'e break the good stuff!).... see where I'm going?

YEP. Or you can use 1 Cab1L to control both. How you get voltage to the track will depend on the CMD / Conventional setting on the ZWL.

YEP. Technically all 4 channels will vary the voltage if you so desire. Of course if you vary the command engines track voltage you will probably have some undesired effects like low smoke or couplers that won't fire so make sure it stays at 16v-18v.

The base3 can act as an access point also. It can support it's own network to connect your CAB3 app on the phone. No internet since there is no port for the network cable and not built to be a full fledged router. Uses 2.4GHZ wifi.

But if you want to do updates and get the graphic images it needs internet. By using a wired access point from the house he can get internet into the train room.
Marty, do you know if here's a way to use a USB to serial adapter to connect something like the old TMCC BASE1 to the BASE3? I'm thinking you might have to add the LCS SER2, but I just wondered if a direct connection is possible?

According to Dave from the Legacy User's Group Live Event you would use the SER2.

Thanks, that's kinda' what I thought after a brief moment of reflection.

Here is where Dave mentions the TMCC interfacing.
