I have a brand new Lionel legacy SD60. I went to program it. Sat it on the tracks, turned the track power on. It started to idle with cab light on. I switched the switch to program. Entered the cab number desired and hit set. Then nothing. Please help

Lionel product number please? The fact that it started up without any remote activity suggests it's not seeing the track signal.

Don’t the directions for programming an engine state that you should have the engine in program when you power up the track???
I have tried every sequence of program switch and track power one could think of
Loose antenna wire inside the locomotive would be my guess.
This is a 12 year old model. My top suspect is the TMCC receiver on top of the RCMC, that model didn't have them soldered in place, and one of the most common service issues was it came loose. The symptoms are the engine comes up with audio, and there's no control in either conventional or command modes.

I came across a brand new Legacy engine where the run/program switch was backwards. When the switch was in run it was actually in program.
Soooo am I screwed? Please help!
Try to take the top off and check the antenna and board seating as suggested. Where did you get it?
Bought it from eBay.
They stand behind the purchaser. You may be ok. I would contact the seller before you open it up.
I purchased it in February. Just got my layout up at my new house…
I think you get 45 days of buyer protection from them.

Sounds like you may own it? Are you comfortable with taking off the hood and trying the suggestions? Otherwise, try your local hobby shop or one of the excellent repair gurus on the forum.
