Years ago, wasn't this done with the MTH helicopter and a ERR device?
I am 99.999 % certain that was just to allow the helicopter to launch from any position on the layout with track power, rather than needing to be near an uncoupling track.
It was a really cool advancement that allowed launching while the train was moving, but there was no way to control the helicopter once in flight.
It would be a great trick (even for ERR! ) to turn the comparatively simple MTH helicopter into a remote controlled drone, which is what was offered in the new set.
As to the OP question, I think it's cool for people with the skills to fly it. I am pretty sure I do not, so I will not be purchasing any of these cars if they make more as separate sale items.
I have a small quad (maybe a little under 2inches diameter/width) I bought at the hobby store for around $30 and I'm not good enough with it that I would be comfortable using it with the trains. I also had a small helicopter (maybe a little smaller than the one in the set, but it would fit on a flatcar nicely) from probably 6 or so years ago (maybe not as high tech as the more recent offerings) that I also wasn't too successful with. The helicopter on the flatcar in this new set I am sure is benefited by all the electronic control advancements that have come about with the recent popularity of all sorts of drones.
