I bought 9 LED's for the basement this weekend. Big improvement over the CFL's I had & supposedly will save me money on my electric bill. I don't think I'll live long enough to see the actual savings because of the price of them. $17.98 per bulb.

What kind of LED bulbs? I outfitted my apartment with these $5 LED bulbs from Lowes. The light output and color is far better than the cheap CFL's I had previously.

Although they are higher cost, my neighbor suggested these too. Just waiting for all the cfl bulbs I currently have installed to die.

Spence, I've been changing my house lighting to LED for awhile now. As you know, they are really pricey. I've found a really good selection at 1000bulbs.com. They have lots of different types, sizes and good color selections. Bob S.
Nicely done!

I like that Spence. I'm planning on getting rid of all the ceiling fixtures and track lights and going to LED's.
I have been replacing mine with 60W equivalent LED's at around $7.00 per. Incandescent color compatible and long life. Life span is important especially for those hard to reach bulbs.
CFL's Are not the best choice due to their ability to fade paint like the tubes and they cannot be dimmed easily. I like the ability to dim the room lights for various photographic purposes.
A bright idea, Spence! I suffer from extreme migraines so the CFL bulbs were never an option(very sensitive to the fluorescent flicker). Once Costco started lowering the price of the LED bulb replacements, I picked up several. It's a much better lighting that makes a world of difference, especially on high ceiling fans.
Looks good, I like the LEDs. We got LEDs from Costco when we moved in here about a year and a half ago. New house, so no idea if we are saving any money, but we like the light over the CFLs. Basement is still waiting for LEDs, but I have 48" fluorescents for my work and train area so lots of light there.
Those are the way to go Spence. When I built my layout and redecorated my family"now train room" I installed surface mount swivel halogen lights. I converted all the bulbs to LED's which run much cooler and give off a nice light. Yes;a little pricey but I think they are worth it.
Do they screw into the existing socket from the older-type bulb? I will need the type
that are dimmable for twilight effect on the railroad.
Hoppy
Yes, they do screw into the existing socket and they are dimmable.
i replaced all the incandescents in high hats in my basement with these dimmable LED's.
while a bit pricey, I feel they are worth it due to their longevity andcost effectiveness. As an added bonus they appear brighter than my incandescent bulbs (Warm white ones).

Looks good.
