anyone else's cab roof hatches on backwards - they will only open when pushed forward?  they should slide back (aft} and follow the molded in 'tracks'.  they also are a 2 piece design with the stop being inside the cab - does anyone know if these hatches are just a press fit and will pop apart so i can flip these around and have them open the correct way?

i checked lionel website and there is not a parts break down pic yet of this engine, but do list the hatches.  they have a break down pic of the older berk, but do not list hatches or show them separate of the loco shell - i think they are a different (new) design

His exact words were. I twisted them around carefully. But was only able to do the outside ones. Interesting the older model shows them as part of the shell in parts. The new version has parts up already on the site. There is new tooling. But it does list 2 different hatches as available.

For the price you paid. I’d certainly contact Lionel and let them deal with it.

just a follow up to this-

i can verifiy that these can be easily turned around by hand to be correctly orientated.  they are of a new design, all plastic, 2 piece.  they can be turned 90 degrees either direction and then removed or keep turning 180 degrees to have them open in the correct direction.  my model has the three hatches, be careful with the middle one as the wiring for the cab light is right there and could be 'snagged' during the rotation, but is easy to see and move wires out of the way during the operation.

other than that, no issues, good looking engine.  in process of running her in!

I just unboxed my Boston & Albany #1401 Berkshire and gave it a brief test run using conventional transformer control. Worked properly and no apparent cosmetic or mechanical issues but the three roof hatches are on backwards. What has to be done to turn them around? Do you lift them upwards off the roof or slide them fully forward or rearward off the tracks and then turn them around?

The edges of the hatches engage in tracks on the roof. How do you remove the hatches from the tracks before turning them around? Do you just  pull them upwards off the tracks or slide them forward or aft to disengage them from the tracks?
