Hi all,

General question here.  Tried running a new RS27 last nite and it did not wish to co-operate.  I use TMCC hooked through an MTH TIU and Remote.  I have an address labeled Lionel in my remote and run all Lionel engines without changing their address.  This new engine would start up, move about 12 inches, stop, rapidly flash the headlight, then, would move another 12 inches and repeat.  Is the engine trying to tell "GET LEGACY" or maybe just program it into the DCS Remote afresh.

I was trying to do this quick and dirty...

While a Legacy base in theory has a stronger TMCC/Legacy Radio signal transmit strength than say an older original CAB1 Command Base, more likely this is just typical signal strength issues.

Another extreme option (do the TMCC grounded wire first) is the TMCC buffer project to further amplify the TMCC signal, but again, do the ground plane or wiring first.

I also should add, while the initial symptom appears to be TMCC radio signal reception, this loco supports multiple methods of control- both Bluetooth (app or universal remote) as well as conventional control.

So a multi pronged approach:

Test using Bluetooth app or universal control

Ensure we are not experiencing power drops or other track and power problems.

Potentially unplug your command base and test using conventional control.

I would add the possibility of signal degradation due to oxidation of various connections in your current system configuration.  If you have a cab-1 use that and the command base connected directly to the track so you have only one connection at risk.  Or, perhaps use a plastic safe cleaner plus/minus a safe abrasive rod to clean the contacts and wire of the cable from the command base to the TIU and the wire from the TIU to the track.

If it's "new" .  Something could be amiss with the antenna from the factory. Loose connection, bad solder etc.

The antenna on a Lionel diesel is typically  just a wire soldered to a metal plate under the shell. The other end plugs into the receiver.

If you have other tmcc/Legacy engines that respond normally. This may be a warranty issue. Unless your comfortable doing some investigating.
