I recently had my MTH Premier Light Mikado's sound file changed to one more appropriate to the project I had in mind. The file came from an engine that did not have tender marker lights, so I'm assuming this is why the Mikado's marker lights aren't on now compared to when I first got it. I don't think the lamps are broken or defective, but I could be wrong. Do you think it's time I rewire them directly to the pickups?

I just purchased my first DCS system and can't find an LMK soft key on my Mikado. The cab interior soft key is able to turn both the cab and front classification lights on and off, but the tender marker lights are unaffected and remain dark.

John,

What resistor and diode would you recommend? Can I find this at my local RadioShack? Is there an easy to follow wiring diagram to do this?

What did you use?  THis is a premier engine so it should work.  So I suspect a marker failure.

Make sure 8 pin connector fully seated on the board.  Is this a 5V or 3V engine?

Make sure 2 pin is fully seated for marker harness.  Pins not pushed out.

After that test the markers with a 9V source and a 150 to 300 ohm resistor.   G

I used the LIN softkey. It is a 3V engine from 2007. And the connector is in properly in the board since the backup light is wired to the same connector attached to the board, and that works perfectly according to direction.

I even tried with another set of tender marker lights from one of my PS2 upgrade kits. Still, no red eyes glowing.

What sound file did you use?  If you chose a Premier version the LMK should be active.

A picture might help sort this out.  G

I used the sound file off of the Premier Chessie Steam Special from 2006, because my Mikado is going to be in excursion service anyways, not to mention a more appropriate whistle.

Did I mention this Mikado has wireless drawbar, too?

Ok, The 10 pin is a jumper to the tender shell.  Look at the 8 pin connector that is in the PS-2 board.  Is it fully seated?  Follow the wires out that go under the 10pin connector.  Is it possible one of the wires broke a solder joint?

Check the yellow and wht wires out of the 10 pin.  Are they fully seated?

If you have an 8 pin marker harness from an upgrade kit or another engine, you can plug it directly into the 8 pin slot to test the board.  If it lights the marker it means some thing is wrong in the harness wire path.

Surprised that the Premier SF doesn't have a LMK Softkey.   G
