Being a rookie in this hobby is something else. So much stuff can go wrong. I put down 28 pieces of new track not thinking to inspect the track. You old guys know what happened, dead short.   After half an hour to 45', I had checked all four drops buss wires etc.  nothing wrong.   Check track I guess, continuity check center/outer rail confirmed short.  Got lucky, checking sections one by one dead short in fourth section tested. Replaced section all good.  Here's what I found in the "bad" section.

This can happen with older track a lot, when I say older track I mean track that is over 15 years old. However I have seen some newer track have issues, mainly Lionel's switch tracks # 6-23010 & 6-23011 and Lionel's Fastrack. Have not used any Fastrack switches so I have no idea how they will hold up.

That is why when I get finished with track work I always test the track and see what may happen.
