About a year ago, David from Dearborn had a series of great videos of operating accessories in action. I was so taken by the American Flyer Drum loader that I had to go get one. Today I finally got it wired up. Looks like I still have a bit of fine turning to do, though, on position and height from the O-gauge track.

I've had one on my layout for years. If the last drum hangs-up, raising the side of the unit (next to the track) just a "hair" usually works. My Grandkids love to take turns loading the drums back into the chute. I think it is one of the best "O" products ever made...in fact, Roger Carp of CTT ranked it #34 of the top 101 "Best of the Postwar Years" book (the Lionel operating milk car ranked #3).

GREAT fun!

I had the original American Flyer issue back in the early 1950's and it was my favorite (after my Lionel 97 coal elevator)! The original barrels are fairly heavy, and work well. I had the modern Lionel version a few years back, and when I bought some replacement drums, they were lighter in weight, and had a tendency to hang-up at the chute.
