I've converted many diecast cars to 'Streets, and recently another forum member e-mailed me asking if he could buy some of the original chassis, tires and interiors I pulled out of those diecast cars I mount on 'Streets chassis. I threw a bunch of them in a box and mailed it to him, expecting no payment: it's not like I needed those parts.
As a thank you, he sent back two diecast cars . One was the MotorMax 1983 Dodge Diplomat NYPD 14th Precinct (Midtown South) car shown in the photo below. At first I didn't know what to do with it: my layout modelsthe early 1950s so it really doesn't fit. But it is a really nice little model, and I realized it would make about the easiest possible conversion to 'Streets ever: I shortened the stock WBB sedan chassis one-notch (two minutes) and that needed no more modification. It took only ten minutes of trimming inside the body with a Dremel to remove the stock screw towers, then a bit of epoxy putty to create new ones to fit the WBB chassis. I installed an electronic flywheel and a bust for the driver, of course. It all took less than an hour.
It is a good runner and very satisfying to watch running back and forth through my downtown: frankly I have no idea quite why it looks so good to me - I guess because I've seen so many of them in TV police dramas over the years.
