Ok, no harm meant here. I notice there's not a lot of used NS engines available in O gauge usually. When I can find them, they usually are owned by guys who buy their roadname and their cars too. So I'm wondering if there's some company loyalty thing? I mean, do guys who work for some companies model their own roads more?

I tried to bid on Norfolk Southern engines a few times now and I've never won. It seemed like the guys who were after that road really wanted them. They paid full price for used engines. So are they made in fewer numbers? or, is it a more sought after road?? or is it something more??? Just wondering.

Joe, That is one of the RR's that are seen in real life now.  Even with Pennsy and B&O and other long out of service roads still popular with modellers the NS is real.  People still pass them when driving,  have to wait for them at crossings,  hear about them on the news and tv commercials and such.

I feel your pain.  I used to work for NS as conductor hauling coal from Shire Oaks yard to Altoona.  I'm trying to build a coal drag with 100 ton hoppers in G scale.   They are very hard to come by.  Even on the Bay they just aren't there.  I just bought one about a month ago but the one before that I think was in the summer or early fall and the bid was ridiculous.

Keep trying.  Rick

Many in the hobby--perhaps most--tend to favor roads they are familiar with or that they remember.  That's a great way to keep those attachments and/or memories alive.

I guess I'm kind of the exception in that regard since the roads I model are the Alaska RR, which I have never seen in "real life" but hope to see one day, and U.S. Army Transportation Corps, with which I had only a somewhat passing acquaintance in my distant past.

But I pretty much gobble-up anything made in those two road names and tend to hold onto them.  I suppose others who have favorite roads do pretty much the same thing.

It's really where you look and what your looking for.

Since I model the NS I'm always looking for some motive power to add to my roster.

But the Models I look for would be Dash 9's or 8, SD60's and 70/70ace.

I'm still looking to add alot of former Southern units like Highhood SD40 and SD40-2 Which have not made by all the O scale manufactures. Only Atlas O made a highhood SD40 but it was a NW model not a Southern unit. You just have the hunt and be ready to pay a premium price.

just about any of the large rr's are popular-its what you see day-to-day. here in the east ,N.S. gets more attention now with the 20 her. units running system wide.seems like BNSF is pretty hot too. i once had a guy from kalmbach pub. at york said they run a cover shot of the newer pumpkin color w/ sweesh logo when ever they can on TRAINS mag and special issues whenever they can and it increases sales-jim

Or a SD-45 Hammer Head!!! Not the SRR or NS fan Sean is....but I do love the Tuxedo paint of the SRR and I have a WBB NS SD-90. And I see WBB is doing some NS Heritage units.

I did just buy a WBB SRR 72' SL passenger 6 car set for a project Sean will like for sure!
