A special thanks to Brian at a Legacy Station for getting me the Southern engine In record time!

Kevin, that is a great shot. My wife and I had the good fortune to attend the NS event on July 3, 2012 in Spencer and it is the most impressive railroad event I have ever attended. I have a friend that now has 11 of these engines and I will be surprised if he does not get them all at some point.
NS did a great job on bringing back all these older railroad paint schemes. The presentation the night before by the engineers involved in getting the paint schemes and colors correct was fascinating. It seems many of the blueprint for paint still existed at Electromotive but some like the original NS was much more difficult. ?They said they were stumped until a member of the original NS historical society came up with a door he had in his collection. This allowed them to know where the stripes should be on the sides and the correct colors.
I think both Lionel and MTH have done a wonderful job with their offerings on all 20 engines.
Happy railroading,
Don
I was there and it was very impressive. It appears we have a long way to go to have all of the NS heritage engines in the club.

Kevin...I came back to this thread because I wanted to look at your scene more closely. It appears that the table and area around it is all made of wood...??? Can you tell us more about this??
Thanks,
Alan
It ishome brew...made me think, wonder if I can fit a turntable into my layout.
Marty,
Even though I have mostly all UP steam I do have 5 of the NS heritage units from Lionel. They are just beautiful locomotives and they look and sound great.
Alan,
The wood that you see is the only remaining section of my first layout. I teach Industrial Technology at a high school and my original layout bench work was made entirely out of bleacher boards from one of the gymnasiums. They were going to just scrap all the boards so I planed the finish off and used them. That section is my homemade turntable. I used a satellite dish motor to turn the bridge. The bridge is made of one solid piece of maple. It rides on a set of six wheel trucks that travel around on the O27 track. That's how I transfer power to the bridge. The dish motor is DC and is powered by my old HO transformer. I have a Lionel Motor Controller that makes it move in either direction Using my Legacy remote.
As as a side note I ended up using the rest of the bleacher boards as the structure for my new larger layout when I moved. I screwed 1/2 OSB board to that then applies 2" styrofoam for landscaping purposes.
