We went down to Dixie Union Station on Saturday to pick up our MTH Erie Angus Freight Set and Rocky had quite a pile of older Atlas O diesels and some cars.... We found a couple of rebuilt reefers we didn't have in the stack, so that was terrific.... Rocky told us the Atlas O models came from an estate of a local collector / operator that had quite a large switching layout, and then he showed us how the guy had written in the foam with a black Sharpe information about the model - like it's orientation in the box, in the event someone had to repack it, and the number he had assigned the engine in TMCC... very interesting and very considerate..... we bought a couple - one of the black topped EL C424's and this Milwaukee RS-1 - the sister of the one we have..... Putting them away at our place, I couldn't help feeling connected to this fellow collector, and I am glad that I have some of his handwriting in with our stuff..... Anybody else buy some of his stuff?

....and RIP my fellow Train Cronie.

I bought about 15 of the Atlas freight cars from that estate at Rocky's.  I remember seeing and talking with their original owner several times when we both happened to be at Dixie Union Station.  He was a nice guy and leaned heavily toward Atlas for freight cars and diesel locomotives and to 3rd Rail for steam locomotives.  I think he'd be pleased that we are now enjoying his stuff.

I don't know if you remember me posting about the rivet press I bought at auction a little over a week ago, but along with that rivet press came boxes and one of those three drawer plastic organizers all full of parts. Among the parts were other assorted items; golf balls, newspaper articles, boxes, etc. Well, eventually I found a name on one of the boxes. I googled it, and the items from the auction turned out to be from a man who passed away a few months ago.  It was one of the creepiest feelings I have felt in a long time. Then a friend (and fellow forum member) told me that yes, they can no longer use it, but they would be glad that somebody else is now enjoying it.
