Most of them are molded in. I'd probably use a black wash and carefully scrape it off the high points with an X-acto knife after drying.

Yeah I've got an SD60 that needs it too! Next PSC order I'll get a few. I saw 2581 last year...

WOW, very nicely done. Looks exactly like a copy of one unit of many I saw like this as seen in the photo I took 2 years ago in July 2015 in Macedonia Ohio. Also that last photo you have of the train meet, that looks exactly as seen in the photo to your layout.

My father says the same thing when he sees new rolling stock on my workbench. 

Looks great Steven! For the grills I airbrush them with grimy black and then take a q tip to remove excess from the top. Then usually put some black weathering powders on it too.

That MU cable looks real. You did a fabulous job this model. 

As for this engine, that's what the fun of the hobby is all about. For me, I have a MTH Indiana Railroad Premiere SD9043MAC that I painted the top radiator fan grills silver even though there suppose to be red. Just something about them being silver looks better.
