Two switches under cab: run/pgm, smoke on/off. My loco is a good runner with Odyssey and I would never turn it off. As with all my Lionel steamers from this time period, I connect the loco and tender rollers with a #22 black stranded wire. TMCC/Odyssey locos tend to surge when power is interrupted as happens on some switches.

Hi - Checked my engine - There is NO switch for Odyssey on/off.  Also went thru the manual - could find nothing about an on/off switch.  This engine was one of the first to receive the Odyssey speed control system.  At the time I am guessing that Lionel felt there was no need for an on/off switch like we have now.  This engine had the famous Odyssey lurch - replaced the Odyssey system with an Electric RR cruise system in mine.  Hope this helps

The Lurch is interesting - I don't find it to be too annoying (I didn't say NOT annoying)

as it only happens at the start-up of an operating session. I live with the thing on

some locos.

I have 2 TMCC USRA 2-6-6-2, both even had the same road name, originally. Both run

beautifully - one lurches, one never has. Always been that way. I presume that the electronics were made essentially at the same time. Odd, but that's machinery for you - almost like it was made by people.
