Hey gang..

MTH just announced they are going to do a run of F-3's.

I am thinking of doing a special run of NYO&W.  Just F-3A's powered.    Road numbers would be 501 and 502.   Any interest?

LMK.  I'd have to put in for this in a day or 2...

Thx

There's so much EL black and yellow on the production list right now...GP9's, RS-3's, Baldwins...and for my money, the EL (ex erie) F units dont look that much different that Erie ones.

Correct. Thus, why not make actual Erie units?

I was never a fan of the black/yellow F's.  I thought the maroon and gray looked a lot nicer on them..

Correct again. Thus, why not make the REAL ORIGINAL DL&W units?

Beth,

Not to change tracks here, but could you please consider a run of Southern Pacific Bloody Nose scheme F units?   Not one manufacturer has done these.  I am sure if you offer these they will buy!   These were the inspiration for Amtrak's red nose locomotives.  SP gray and bloody nose ran into the 70s and often pulled the Coast Starlight as well as SP commuter and freight.

Thank you

Scott

Beth,

The NYOW roster you  (and I) looked at is a little misleading. NYOW 821 and 822 are actually F3  AB pairs (same number). Unlike the FTs purchased earlier, the these AB sets have couplers on all ends. The FTs had semi-permanent draw bars between the A and B units. The single F3As are numbered 501, 502, and 503. Ther are no matching F3B units for these engines. That said, I'd like to see some additional FTB units made in NYOW, as MTH marketed the FT set as and ABA with an extra FTB add-on.

Im thinking of doing F3A's 501 and 502.   821 and 822 were done by MTH back in 2006, along with B units.

The problem with the B units, is that I have to get the same # of A's and B's, which means if I sell just an A by itself, I'll have a left over B, that will be hard to sell.  Also,  most passenger train pix of NYO&W trains I've seen, just have 1 A unit for power.

Beth,

If the train has a single F3A, the  pictures will show it to be either 501, 502, or 503, as the 821 and 822 sets were seldom broken apart. If you find an ABA set in a picture, it is likely an FTA/FTB/F3A(500 series). The other possibility is all F3s. You will not find an F3A/F3B/FTA set. The drawbar on the end of the FT precludes that possibility. If you have to get pairs of F3ABs, and you want 501, 502, or 503, then the matching B units should carry the same number as the A unit. Just be aware that F3Bs 501, 502, and 503 never existed. Only the 821 and 822 sets had B units.

Your other option is to do FTA/Bs with road numbers MTH has not used. Your possibilities are much better there.
