thanks for the marines and all the armed forces

and to all that served!!!

went into a local pizza shop this week. gentleman was sitting

waiting for his order. he had on a "retired Marine" baseball

cap. he was kinda rough and looked tired. I walked up to him

asked if he had served. he said he served in Vietnam.

I shook his hand and said THANKS. He lit up and a big smile came

across his face. we talked for a min. when he got his order, he turned

and said have a good night, I said thanks again, it was nice talking with you.

I think he was glad to be recognized.

Want to really see something? Pay for his dinner, stop and chat with a young Marine in dress blues out eating with his parents or girlfriend.

Now they might think you are crazy, (And who knows, they may be correct, after all we play with toy trains) but I guarantee they will remember the gesture forever!

A Marine should be sworn to the patient endurance of hardships, like the ancient knights; and it is not the least of these necessary hardships to have to serve with sailors.
- Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery

Saw this museum in 2009, I was very impressed. Sadly, they no longer display both Iwo Jima flags at the same time like they used to when they were on display at the WA Navy yard.
My brother said it best that the only thing lacking from this, "Shrine to the Corps" was a recruiting office at then end of the tour.
No Marines in my family history, everyone was in the Army except my Dad in the USAF for 2 years in the 50s, my retired USAF LtCol brother. I was an Army captain when i got out but got shot by Marine on a field exercise. Does that count? That poor kid is probably still doing push ups for that (hit me in the foot, at a horizontal angle and in front of several people, sparing me any 'self inflicted wound' jokes and it only required a bandage and no stitches. 2-3 milimeters lower and I'd have lost my big toe, they said)

A buddy of mine who was USMC Recon always had an answer to that:
"Yeah, the men's department!"

Here I am with the ultimate living Marine, R Lee Ermey, on the set of a TV show where I was invited to do, "Talking head" work on camera with him:
