O Gauge Railfan Prevents Crash

On Sunday the 8th of January an alert O Gauge Railfan filming the River City 3 Railers modular layout at a popular railfan spot, the Bridge over Geezer Gorge, prevented a rear-end collision between a Norfolk Southern mixed freight and a rapidly closing Norfolk & Western y6b mixed freight. Yelling "TOM" caught the attention of the closing train's engineer who pressed the emergency stop button on his Cab1L.

The rear end collision was averted and the Model Railroad Division of the NTSB did not need to be called.

Those who would denigrate the "foamers" should take a close look at this event. In the finest tradition of railroading, a potential horrible accident was averted only by the vigilance of a track-side enthusiast. Well done.

Thank goodness the Model Railroad division of NTSB did not have to be called. It is really difficult to hit those O-gauge specimen bottles.

It looks like that steamers engineer was under the influence glad he didnt hit me, that steamer didn't really have a chance of catching my diesel anyway hahahaha

Not as close as it looked. There was a 7 second gap. I was already backing off the throttle and had at least 10' before collision. I was stacking the two trains so we could get both in a video with minimal dead time between the two.
