My best ever in 3 rail O gauge is an experiment from back in the early '90s.  The Custom Trains FM had just come out, and this thing obviously had some serious 'nads.  These first run versions came with twin Mabuchi cans that were considerably larger than the later flywheel equipped models.  So on went sixteen Lionel aluminum cars...all I had at the time.  Behind these I strung out forty five mixed vintage Lionel freight cars.  Fire up the big ZW, and off she went! 072 curves allowed this chooch to stay on the rails.  There were no grades on this attic floor layout.  The caboose was about three feet from the engine!  FWIW, the motors were very hard to control with the ZW and a lot of jerky action occurred when starting and stopping, or trying to creep. A standard Lionel FM would not handle this load, and I gained an appreciation for good fitting traction tires, which these guys had.  The cars were all lubed with LaBelle brown #107.

Haven't pulled any cars myself, but I did push a Ford LTD around a corner after it died at a traffic light....

I'll have to try running a long train on my layout. Won't be too many before the loco also becomes a pusher!  lol
