Greetings Everyone,

Well, here's my latest "5-OH" LED project.  It's a First Response 2013 Dodge Charger decorated in the Ohio State Highway Patrol Livery, (Yes Rich, It's A Hemi).   I tried to get this one as close to the prototype as possible with regard to lighting location and color.  There is a total of 12 PICO LED's that flash and 2 cool white constant illumination CHIP LED's for the Head Lights.  The Light Bar has a total of 6 LED's, 1 pair each wired into 3 flasher circuits to produce the random sequences.  Both the Blue and Red flashers on the front of the unit each has its own flasher (a total of 4).  Each of the rear LED's has its own flasher as well.  Space is at a premium and things ended up being a little tight.  All of the lighting products used in this build were purchased from Evens Design (AKA,  Model Train Software.Com), A Forum Sponsor!   I hope you all like it and please feel free to comment.

We had a former neighbor who was an OSP Trooper.  I'll never forget the day he came home with a new Charger.  That was the sweetest looking car I had ever seen.  Every guy in the neighborhood was over at his place checking it out.  I still slow down when I see one out on the highway.  Not because I am speeding, but because I want to get a better look.

You nailed it!

Tom

PS: That was the only time I have been inside one!

Thanks for your comment and from what I read, you are very familiar with the actual prototype.   BTW, I spent most of my adult life inside more than one police cruiser, but I was able to get out at the end of my shift!

That is extremely cool looking. You might have a calling there. Going into business?

Hi Gene,

First, thank you for the nice comment.

Not wanting to sound like I'm initiating a shameless plug but if there was a genuine interest for this type of "Custom Built" item, I may consider it.   The truth is that these types of vehicles would not be inexpensive.   There are many variables including but not limited to the initial cost of the "Project Vehicle", the number and types of lighting and the amount of time to complete.  If you have ever been to York there are a few dealers that build these and my first impression of the "Asking Price" was "Sticker  Shock".   That is until I built a few of these myself at which time I acquired an understanding of why these are priced the way they are.   Just sayin'.  BTW, if you haven't seen them, I have a School Bus and an AMTRAK Police Cruiser floating around here on the forums somewhere too.

Chief Bob,

I have been to York and have seen those vehicles. I have not been in a while as interests and moving back to NC took a toll on the RR empire. I have a very good friend in Ohio that is a Capt with the OSHP. "If" you were to do one for sale, I would be interested. He will be retiring soon.

Great job, Bob, just one question, How big are the flashers for those led chips and how did you fit all of them in the car?

Hey Marine,

Wait a minute, that's 2 questions.   First, the flasher units that power the chips are approximately 3/4" X 1/4" X 1/8" and are encased in shrink tube to protect the delicate electronics.  Now, how did I fit all of them in the car?   That's the hard part but I can't tell ALL of my "Trade Secrets".

Hi Bob, I know you can't tell all your secrets. But unless you plan on doing this as a part time job, which I could see a good money maker, it would be nice if you do a DIY video for the rest of us that would like to give it a try!

If you do it as a job I understand and would probably buy from you down the road!
