I would like to have one of these on my new layout but don't want the associated noise. The Atlas one whines (judging from Erics videos) and the Lionel one (i think) has an annoying clicking noise. Anyone have one of these that is relatively quiet? Thanks,

The first version of the Lionel pump is smooth as silk and quiet. You can still find them on eBay.
All of my walthers (prior Atlas product) do make a considerable whine.
I have had two of the Lionel 6-34162. The first one was quiet but smoked the circuit board after a couple months of intermittent use. The second one is noisy but is still running fine. Go figure.
They look pretty nice if you bury the base in the "ground":
