I have an old nth Challenger that has what appears to be a digital dynamics AC/DC dlx driver in it. It seems to have voltage controlled chuff. Is there any way to change this to a triggered chiffon?
You can input the chuff switch directly into the RailSounds board on pin 21. Since you already have an active circuit providing that chuff input, you'll have to cut any circuit coming to pin 21.
Connect the chuff input to a reed switch triggered by a magnet on a wheel and you'll have triggered chuff. The other side of the reed switch goes to frame ground.
Years ago I installed a few DD boards to upgrade to TMCC. I believe there was no auto chuff. You needed to install a magnetic reed switch to trigger the chuff.
It sounds like you may have a DD Equalizer board. These were used to convert MTH Proto 1 engines to TMCC and retain the original MTH sound system. The one conversion I did. The engine moved a ways before the chuff kicked in. Not to pro typical and no fix. Ended up installing in a Diesel with better results.
