I raised a question several weeks ago about using an old cab 1 control with my Legacy Control. It was suggested that I needed the cab 1 Legacy controller which Gun Runner John prescribed. I purchased his recommendation and I am just curious what the differences are between the two controls? I have not installed it yet. Bill

If I’m hearing you correctly the Cab 1 is TMCC only and the Cab 1L is Legacy.

A Cab-1 will only transmit the TMCC protocol and not TMCC/Legacy, but this still lets it run a Legacy engine. You just won't get all of the Legacy features.
But then again this is also true for a Cab-1L, which from the OP's description appears to be what he bought following GRJ's suggestion. It will transmit most of the TMCC/Legacy protocol, meaning you won't get all of the Legacy features, but you will get more than you would if you used the Cab-1.
Finally, Cab-2 transmits the full TMCC/Legacy protocol and so you'll get all Legacy features if you use a Cab-2.
(Of course you could just use a traditional transformer to power the track and control the engine, and not use a Cab-1, -1L or -2 at all. This will also run a Legacy engine (or a TMCC engine for that matter), but you'll only get bare-bones features, i.e. basically forward, neutral and reverse, control of speed, horn/whistle activation, and bell on and off, but no more.)
