Oops, New to DCS and problems... HELP!

First, ensure that a button isn't stuck in the down position. If that's not the problem, reload the remote's DCS 5.0 software.

Once you have the remote working again, do a Reset of the remote and a Factory Reset of the TIU:

Menu/System/Remote Setup/Reset Remote

Menu/System/TIU Setup/Factory Reset

Thanks, did as suggested.  Button not stuck.  Reload went through ok.  Still no display on screen...  But it does light up when B/L pressed.  Any other suggestions?

PS:  Downloaded eBook, great resource, thanks for all the effort you put into it.

There is a remote contrast feature and I'm just heading out the door. It's probably under remote set up someplace but usually a  remote power down resets it to factory defaults....(I Think) See if it does anything.  good luck.

I'm confused.  Is going to 4.3 a possible solution?  Would I need to change the loader program from 5.0 to an earlier version?  Would I go back to 4.3 on the TIU and remote?  3 guesses?  Please remember I am really new to DCS.

Personally, I very much doubt that the version of DCS has anything to do with the problem. I only mentioned that I have a copy of DCS 4.30 (and just about every other version of DCS produced, both production and beta) in response to Gregg's post.

Your one mistake was in not immediately resetting both the TIU and the remote prior to doing anything with them. You have no idea what condition these devices were in when you acquired them used. In fact, they could even be suffering from an issue with their hardware. If so, you may just be out of luck.

If the problem is simply that, as Gregg suggests, the contrast is messed up, the only thing to try is a "blind reset", which means performing the following commands without being able to see the screen.

After ensuring that the remote is powered up with fresh batteries, do the following in the exact sequence indicated:

1. Press MENU
2. Scroll down 2 clicks of the thumbwheel
3. Press the thumbwheel once
4. Scroll down 4 clicks of the thumbwheel
5. Press the thumbwheel once
6. Scroll down 1 click of the thumbwheel
7. Press the thumbwheel once
8. Wait 3 seconds and press the thumbwheel once, again

After a few seconds, the remote should turn off. Then, press the power-on button and cross your fingers!

Now, before you go any further, reset both the remote and the TIU (Factory Reset).

Yes, reset both, thanks.  After you "blind reset" procedure I went through it again to saw that it led to "REMOTE SETUP" and then "RESET REMOTE".  Then saw the "TIU SETUP" and selected "RESET TIU" and "FACTORY RESET".
