My layout is wired for dcs and operates with no problems. I have acquired a tmcc base and cab 1 control. I have the serial cable to connect the tmcc to the tiu. Is that all there is to hooking up the tmcc? Will I be able to then control legacy and tmcc locomotives with the cab 1?

You need to do 2 things:
- Connect TMCC as you would normally
- Connect MTH cable #50-1032 between the TIU and the command base.
This and a whole lot more is all in MTH’s “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition", available for purchase from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!

If you want to only use the Cab-1 no need for the serial cable... just one wire to an outside rail from the "U" connection TMCC base.
Can the WiFi and TMCC share the serial port on the TIU with a y connector by any chance ?
Yes it can.

You already have the yes. Connect the tmcc base track wire to the TIU output common(black)
The serial connection is only needed if you wish to control tmcc/legacy engines with the DCS remote. You won't have all features on the tmcc/legacy engines, but you will be able to operate them from the DCS remote.
Big 10-4 fellows...thanks!
If you connect the TMCC base through the serial port (and yes you can use a Y split to connect two cables to the input serial on the TIU) you can then controll TMCC functions via the DCS Remote and the CAB-1 remote. I find this nice as two people can control trains at one time on your layout (one using DCS and the other with the CAB remote running the TMCC trains) or you can control all from your DCS remote!
The only limitation I can think of is that of the CAB-1 TMCC setup itself. I don't know what I'm talking about here but it won't access all the newer fancy Legacy stuff and other newer features of Lionel engines. But it does let you run them!
And on another note, I think you can run the output wire from the TMCC Base to each of the four channels ground wires for TMCC across your entire layout! I did this and it worked for me.

As long as you do this on the output side of the TIU, it's the recommended approach. I've been operating this way for many years.

THANK YOU All .... don't know what we train lovers would do without the OGR forum and your knowledge and support. Life is GOOD !

Yes Barry! Thanks for pointing out my omission! Sending the TMCC signal through the TIU might result in who knows what. Or it might just work fine. I wouldn't want to try and see, but I did mean on the OUTPUT side of the TIU.
