I have an area on my layout where I eventually want to build a Town park. I was hoping to use something like a Merry-go-round as the center piece, but I haven't seen anything like that as an operating accessory from the major mfgs. I have seen photos of various layouts which do have Merry-go-rounds, so they must have been available at some time.

Does anyone have any thoughts on where I might find something like that?

Call Nicholas Smith Trains at (610) 353 8585. I saw a used one there a couple of months ago. You might get lucky.

If that dose not work try to do a search for "carousel toys" you never know what an internet search will bring up until you try. A number of companies make models that could work for you, finding them when you wont one is the trick.

Dept 56 has made a few different ones. Since there areusually more local shops selling their products than those that sell trains you might be able to fint one and check it out in person. Other makers of ceramic buildings might offer them as well, but I think Dept 56 is the only one available year-round.

I have a Merry Go Round made by Corgi that I bought from England off eBay. It knocks the Lionel, Dept 56 and Mr. Christmas ones right out of the park. Here are a few pictures. The one caveat is that it runs on 110V and comes with a European type plug so you have to use a plug converter to have it turning and the lights and music run off three AA batteries. It does not come with any figures, I added a bunch of Arttista kids figures. It runs and sounds great, the calliope music is exactly as I remember the top real Merry Go Rounds sounded. I've added a short video clip to demonstrate the movement and sound.

Here is a link to one on eBay that is similar to mine, it is more like the ones you'd see at a county fair or traveling carnival show. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CORGI-...;hash=item3f15b3aab9

Thanks for the replies.......Paul, that one you have is really something special. I checked out the "Mr. Christmas stuff and although they look pretty impressive, the nice ones are about 16" diameter.....a little big for the area I have.

I'll keep looking hopefully something will turn up eventually. I'm really not in any rush, just trying to plan ahead. Maybe Lonel will re-issue theirs, or MTH will take a shot at one sometime.
