Hi All,
I'm converting an E8 Dummy unit (from 6-81228) to powered (from 6-84075) swapping out the frames. I noticed that the dummy board looks just like the power board with the same connentions.
Is the dummy board actually the same but coded differently for the missing motors/sound board? If so, can they be reprogrammed to be a full power board?
Just wondering.

Can't answer this directly, but I can say I have a 6-84641 ATSF E6 A-A set. Both units are powered but only the front unit has sound. Main boards for both units are the standard Legacy RCMC boards. I tried adding sound the rear unit by simply going plug and play to add a sound board and speaker and it worked perfectly. So, my bet would be that it would work just fine.
They seem to be the same board, but the only place that could possibly reprogram them would be Lionel. Lionel is the only one that has the code for the board, so they're the only game in town.
That being the case, the real answer is no, they can't be programmed.
