From the Standard Catalog of Lionel Trains, the color is referred to as 9E orange, which is what the 9E loco was painted, hence the 9E reference. Here is a link to a paint supplier that can match whatever color you need. Good Luck, & Merry Xmas.
Norman, just a heads-up that there is a $9 s/h charge from trainenamel (Charles Wood) for orders under $100. It's clearly stated on the home page. Many LIONEL parts dealers carry Wood's paint, so you may be able to save a few $$$ ordering paint from them. Also, some LHS's stock the paint, as well.
