I think I know the simple answer, but here it goes.

Can the Peanuts Halloween Lion Chief Set be run in conventional mode.

We are switching out set at the Ronald McDonald House today, I we are adding the Peanuts Set (still in the box).

The power is supplied by the kids pushing a button and a relay timer applies power to the track.

If I can not run in conventional mode, I plan to set the speed and hide the remote on the layout.

After this season I may have the loco modified to run in conventional.

Thanks Guys

You answered your own question perfectly..   No conventional.

The answer was simple for now, I showed some of the staff at the RMH how to use the remote, and to make sure they leave it in the forward at a tick mark I drew on the remote.  The sounds for this set are great. I will check up on it later this week. We are running the Hogwarts Express, Peanuts Halloween Set and the Transylvania set there now.

John G.,

You'll lose the sound when the engine is converted to conventional. It's all on one board in the LionChief engines - engine power control, sound and radio.

So, an approach may be to remove the engine wires and use the roller pick-up feeds to a bridge rectifier/heat sink and then to the motor. That would keep the engine intact with the ability to return it to factory. There's room inside as the LC board is small.

The timer with a button control is a lot of fun for visitors and simple for staff - power on or off.

Wonderful activity that the club is doing. Everyone needs a distraction and a smile a RMH. May God bless your continued endeavors there.

I think you already know this, but in case you don’t, and for future reference, all basic LionChief sets must use the remotes for operations. Only LionChief Plus locomotives can be run by remote or conventionally with the flip of a switch.

Hopefully, you were able to show the staff how to turn the remote on and off as well. The remote will drain the batteries fairly quickly if it is left on.

But what a great effort for the kids! I’m sure the staff also appreciates your efforts and are glad to help.
