Are all Pecos River Cars Scale? I recently bought one and am impressed.
Do they all come with metal trucks and wheels?
Any drawbacks?
If so, does anyone have any for sale?

I like the 50' single and double door cars, I have a few.
Since they were a brass company, everything I've seen from them were scale.

As far as I know for their plastic cars:
Yes all scale, Yes die cast truck with metal wheels, Slightly clunky details like grabs, None, keeping the few we have.
They're gigantic compared to the rest of my rolling stock. They even sit slightly taller than my scale GG1s.
Are they too large for a Scale GG1?

I know John. I’m sure he wouldn’t have put out oversized cars.
FYI, Pecos River cars are full-dress 1:48 scale cars. Naturally, they’re going to be bigger than most post World War II Lionel and most MTH.

They are full sized, so a 50' is actually 50 scale feet.
If you think those are big, check out the Lionel 86' boxcars!

Remember how low the real PRR GG1 had to be in order for it to fit through the tunnel that the PRR had. Thus a SCALE, modern era boxcar might just be a bit taller than your GG1.
these cars regularly show up for sale at O Scale Train shows. I think they are models of a large prototype car, and I think they are scale.
Also the cars tend to ride higher with the 3 rail trucks. With the 2 rail trucks they have a lower ride height.
I have a bunch and absolutely love them. I used to go to York and buy them from G&M Hobbies (long gone). They were great cars and I would get them for a great price. They didn't do PRR freight cars, but I used them to acquire all the "foreign" freight cars for Pennsy trains. Check the BLT date on the cars for your era and you can't go wrong.

I'm sure that if you eMail "Rattler21", he will be more than happy to explain it to you in detail, and probably even give you a link the the individual sell the two cars.
"Pecos" John Smith was a big Santa Fe fan and brass importer. He did a couple of runs of the box cars to test the waters for less expensive rolling stock. He's since shut down the business, but the plastic cars were scale. The 3-rail cars did ride high to clear the flanges. They fell in between Atlas and MTH on the level of detail at the time. I've lost out on several on eBay over the years though I did snag a couple of his brass cars in 2-rail. He's the only one I know of who produced a Santa Fe CF7 and I believe he did both the original and Topeka cab versions.
I have a number of the 50ft cars. I got them direct IIRC when he had them marked down...great deal...I like them!!
