following @pennsyfan another image of my gantry crane in action from TWO different Christmas layouts. In the 2nd one, you can see that I glued washers to the tops of film containers (remember those?) so that the magnet could grab hold.

Amen to that. This would be a lot more interesting if the next link in the "Chain" was something else in the picture of the previous post to add to the chain. We now have over a dozen of the same links attached to one single link. Doesn't make much of a chain. Please accept this as one member's opinion. I always look in the background for some thing I have on my layout to use as the next link, and enjoy using this thread in that manner.
OK John H here is my attempt to give us a tank car (Mettoy 1950's) plus enough "other stuff" in the picture to extend the link beyond tank cars. Hope this works.
