Without knowing the model number, I can't be 100% certain. But there is normally a rotary volume knob whereby you can turn the sound down. It's normally near to the switches.
Also, if you open-up the unit, you might wish to check that the speaker is mounted securely, as a loose speaker can make a dreadful row.
Wow Nicole thank you, you're fantastic. I couldn't find the volume knob so I decided to open the unit up, as you suggested, and check the speaker mounting. Speaker was ok but low and behold I spotted a potentiometer that looked like it could be a volume control. The external portion of the knob was disguised to look like one of the fans on the top of the b unit. I applied power and sure enough it was the volume control. After turning the sound down some, it sounds great now. Thank you again for your wonderful help. I was very disgusted with the sound of this unit but now I am very pleased.
I'm pleased that I was able to be of some help. Although I'm sorry that I completely forgot that on most 'F' units the volume knob is disguised as a fan. (A senior moment.)
