I believe Lionel is planning a new Polar express announcement car (or maybe it's already out). This one appears to be Bluetooth equipped and/or will operate with your PE remote. The last one was seen in 2016 but as I understand it only works in conventional mode?
Curious as to when this will be cataloged or did I miss it already?

I wish they made the dining car with the HOT chocolate sound in it!
One is transformer controlled. Other remote controlled, not BT. The newer remote version has been out for a while now.

I would beg to differ as this one bears the Bluetooth Logo. Attached is a copy of the user manual.
You can beg to differ all you want. I have one and it's not Bluetooth. If you look at the owner's manual closely you'll see it says Lionchief Plus, lionchief, and Bluetooth. Have no idea why it says it but it's obviously not Lionchief plus either!!
The new one is both RF and Bluetooth. It will work with any generation LionChief Polar engine with the dedicated remote or Universal remote.
We're currently working on updates to the Bluetooth Apps to add functionality for this car.
I'm still thinking it's Bluetooth. from the manual:
The Universal Remote will communicate exclusively to the Bluetooth PE set which means the Universal Remote will need to also Exclusively use the same Bluetooth signal to communicate to the announcement car.
You can't plaster Bluetooth logos on devices that do not use Bluetooth. There are legal reasons behind that.
What's the part number of the command version Lionel offers now? I've only been able to locate the one that has conventional operation only via the bell button.
