I could change the base. We have 2 more but I don't want to program 95 engines into another base.Jon we need more numbers.

The only route to add more numbers may be to add more bases, and then only use one base at a time. Engines that always see layout time could be loaded into both bases. Rarely run engines would be programmed into one base. You'd have to create a method/system to remember which ENG and TRN, etc. is assigned to a particular base.

It's taken me a long time to use almost 99 ENG numbers (powered units, Stationsound cars, Caboose, Crane, Whale, Shark, Giraffe, accessories [Culvert Loader/Unloader, Backshop]). I don't think I'll see another 99. With Legacy units accepting TRN numbers beyond 9 I don't see a problem there either.

Jon sent me an email answer to the numbers question I had and ENG numbers beyond two digits is not going to happen. And I don't think we'll see pre-Legacy TRN numbers beyond 9.
In the past, when you were controlling an engine A and say you were going 3/4 full speed and you wanted to stop it and it had a high momentum, you would crank down the dial and the engine would slowly start to stop. If you switched control to another engine B the first engine A would stop slowing down until it was accessed again.

Engine que means that if I dial engine A to start towards a stop and switch to engine B, engine A will continue to slow to a stop.

You can do this up to 5 engines. 3 is plenty for me.
addressing each individial engine or cattle car or passenger car in the trainlinked lashup is also cool.however dont see how the passenger car(stationsounds) plays role in trainlink besides it makes it alot faster to access.(will try some more) i choose the cattle car and applied the heavy train breaks on it in an emergency stop. Boy did that cattle car brakes scream out , i almost thought the wheels where going to heat up and come off.Even the cattle were scared. This can be done in sync or individially. The vision line seems to be where these new features will really show off.

Sorry about the poor video my basement is still under construction.I set up a little test track on floor. sounds at your finger tips, i like it. intense or easy individial breaking. We have a show this Saturday ,cant wait to experiment on a real layout.

As far as the lash up building . I like the feature where you can add the crewtalk icon above whatever car you want to do the communication and adding the horn/whistle icon to whatever engine you choose.

The train link icon placed above all the ones you want to act together as one, extreme breaking and labor sound in sync. Pretty cool. Would like to see if this can be changed on the fly(horn and crewtalk) without stopping the train.
So far no problems.

I started playing with Train Link today. I found out if you have two engines and use TL to start Tower Comm on one of them, the switch back to your TR and fire off the tower comm on the lead engine.. You get a whole lot of noise Smile

Also found I could set the cattle car to be the horn for the entire train. Makes for a nice Moo Moooo Moooo when approaching a crossing.

I've used TL to switch to my 2nd GP7 and fire the horn and crew talk. What I cannot do is assign it as the main horn and crew talk per the icons in train build. I think as the manual states, it's only on newer Legacy engines and the GP7s are early releases.

That did it !!!

I'm rushing down to my Lionel dealer right now to buy Legacy, just so I can do that !!!   How cool !!!

Aw, shucks....     just remembered...     he's CLOSED!!   Frown

Umm...     maybe tomorrow!   Smile

Seriously, as strange as it sounds (no pun intended), that's a truly unique feature that has all kinds of possibilities!!   Big Grin

Can anyone think of other "sound" cars (umm...   do they have to be Legacy enabled ???) that would inject a bit of humor into running your trains?

A "mooing" whistle....     what a hoot !!!   Big Grin

Today I was playing with 1.3 and found a softkey labeled AUX that shows up when you go into INFO about an engine. This allows you to have access to the digit keys (like cab-1) and reset the engine without have to change your setting back to Cab-1 from Legacy.

Its not something you will use alot, but when you need to its makes it easier

Yea!
Well we are still having the base not found problem. If the base is on and nobody is using TMCC the base must go to sleep. Not 1 of the five cab 2's can find the base. We have to turn off the base an turn it back on to get it to respond. Is anyone else having this priblem? This is not new to 1.3 It has been like this. It just finds the base quicker with 1.3.

I would send the base in for repair/replacement.

Hmmm...so when I want to store and transfer a hundred phone numbers with the Blackberry Storm, I plug into the computer USB and store. Easy to retreive. Maybe I missed it, but with the serial port on the base there is no way to store the memory banks to a computer (or maybe a flash drive Legacy Module) and then download into another base?

I think an email to Lionel tech support would be the most definitive answer to your question.

BTW - Using the shift key and some puncuation would make your posting a LOT easier to read.
I am at the club and hook up the back up base. I ran a train around the layout with the short antenna on the base. Everthing ran ok. I hooked up the Hawkings antenna the the base and got the base not found issue. I put the little antenna back on and the problem went away. I guess the base is ok and the hawkinges antenna is the problem. We have a 7' extension on the antenna.

Jim, I have this problem with my Cab 2 v1.2. The most odd thing is you cannot turn the remote off if the base does not have power... go figure, it just says base not found. I cycle the power and everything is fine.
I had installed V1.3 in my home layout a couple of days after York and it's been rock solid ever since. Reported on this earlier.

This weekend I installed V1.3 in our Tinplate Trackers of Austin Texas club Legacy Base and CAB-2's prior to running trains at a Regional Lone Star TCA meet in Garden Ridge, TX.

The layout was L-shaped and was about 35 X 30 ft as space was tight.

Installation was a non-event. Same as on my home layout. Couple of minutes. Existing database preserved as expected. The guys didn't even realize I'd installed it until they saw the welcome screen and absence of the Radio Link Warning Light.

Up to four CAB-2's got a good workout for eight hours. Rock solid in and around the layout. This would not have been the case with V1.2.

I took one of the CAB-2's and went walked around the venue honking the horn on a 3 diesel engine lashup all TMCC engines. Probably around 150 ft at the extremes from the base. Got the Radio Link Warning Light very occasionally in the far extreme corners of a tin building building. Rock solid otherwise. This in a venue with all sorts of electronic devices in the visiting crowd and on the layouts.

The range is VASTLY IMPROVED.

Also, I found the process for building lashups to be much improved and our lashups operated for hours without a glitch.

Operating Legacy and TMCC engines with Legacy V1.3 was a real pleasure today.

Thanks, Jon and team!!

Austin Bill
Thanks, Marty.

Alan, to amplify on Dale's post.

My primary interest was testing the wireless link between the CAB-2 and Legacy Base. This for us was the BIG improvement hoped for from V1.3. And as stated it was Rock Solid.

Legacy/TMCC has always performed well and V1.3 continues to do so on the wired links between the Legacy Base/TMCC base and our four concentric track loops.

And these have gotta be worst-case conditions with a serial buss for each of the four track loops connected with 4 jones plugs per module and 20 plus modules all stored in a trailer in the Texas heat and humidity between shows. And set up and torn down and shake rattled and rolled to and from the shows.

For modules with long steel bridges we do have to pay attention signal propagation issues from the tracks to the engines' antennas. This was fixed in the past and continues to work fine with V1.3. I think this is a separate topic (not a V1.3 issue) and has been covered elsewhere on the forum.

Austin Bill
Hi Flemming,

With all due respect -- this topic was set up to report on and discuss our experiences running trains with the new V1.3. Not discuss ship dates.

Don't blame you for wanting to know when V1.3 will ship. We all do.

Why don't you start your own topic on "V1.3 Ship Date" or the like.

We're just a bunch of guys who like to run trains and are enjoying exploring V1.3. We don't run Lionel.

Thanks for your understanding.

Austin Bill
leapinlarry,

C'mon, man. I don't grudge anybody.

Just suggested creating your own topic on shipping since this topic is about "V1.3 performance" not "V1.3 shipping dates".

Then you guys can post back and forth endlessly about when V1.3 will ship which of course won't change anything.

Please quit hijacking this topic.

Austin Bill
