First of all: Happy New Year evryone!!

Question: I have about 24 Tortoise switch machines on my layout. Their power supply died. I had been using a plus 12/minus12 volt supply and switching polarity with a switch. I am having a real time of trying to come up with a new supply. I bought 2 12 volt 5 amp supplies. Wired them up neg on 1 term, pos. and neg as common on center term and pos on the third.
Power supplies shut down.

Anyone have an idea what I can use that will work?

Thanks for any ideas. I want to run trains again.

You really should share your "wiring schematic" for how you have the switch machines wired.     I assume you're referring to the Circuitron Tortoise switch machines ?   I have about 12 of them on my layout

I only need one 12 VDC power supply, then achieve the reversing of polarity with a DPDT  On-On switch.   Along with that I purchased multicolor Panel LED's that go from Red - Green.   No Off Position to keep the panel LED lit

Throwing the switch "reverses" the polarity to the Tortoise machine, the power supply is simply 12 VDC, with two taps +12 VDC and Ground ?

I have run them for 35 years on a single DC power supply. I just looked back at the instructions and see your dilemma. In order to go to a single power supply. You would need to change out all the toggle switches as well as the wiring. . Quite a bit of work.
This is off the Circuitron site. Seems pretty straightforward and no mention of anything special as far as power supplies.

I wired mine using the AC technique.  Your writing could be easily adapted to it with not much change.  I used the low voltage accessory ac output of my Z4000 and wired it through a couple of 1n4006 diodes to get the equivalent of your +/- 12v.  The instructions and schematic are in the tortoise instructions.  But that power supply from Amazon looks pretty slick too.
