I am building s static display which will be on about 6 hrs a day.  The display will be lighted with 5 lights.  Lights are the old style 432 bulbs.  I looked up the power requirements for those bulbs and found they draw .25 amps.  If I run them at 12 volts I calculated 3 watts per bulb.  5 bulbs would equal 15 watts.  If my numbers are correct, would the Lionel accessory transformer be a good choice for the power.  That is rated at 36 watts and 1.5 amps.  Or should I go with the cw80 rated at 80 watts.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't run a transformer close to it's ratings for a long period.  Note that when you turn the transformer voltage down, you're not getting 36 watts out of it, since you're than bumping against the current rating at the lower voltage.

It'll probably work, but I'd keep an eye on how hot it gets after a couple hours to see if you're close to the limit.
