Hi all,

My Premier SD70ACE starts up in DCS, most functions except rear lights work when changing direction, only front lights come on when you cycle dir button, but no movement in any direction.  all other sound and coupler and light features work.

I get an error "Incorrect response to command" when trying to upload the flash file to the engine in DCS loader programme in windows, but I can successfully upload the sound file.

I only have the full DCS system, and no conventional controller.

I did note that the headlight flashes 5 times as I turn the TIU power on where my other engines stay dark.

I have had boards go bad on me in this exact engine before, I am guessing it may be bad but could also be stuck in neutral - how would I determine this, and if going bad, what could be causing this, we checked all wiring is fine, smoke unit gets quite hot but guess they all do.

Any ideas, or on how to get out of neutral factory reset in analogue using DCS would be highly appreciated.

Or if I need a new board, is there a direct contact at MTH I could contact to get one sent or at least a part number?

Thanks

Carl

Carl it would not do any good to call MTH for a board number, they will only sell boards to ASC tech's that have taken the 3 day course at MTH . you might try

the transformer conventional reset 1 whistle and five bells and if it resets you will hear 2 TOOT'S whistle blast,

AS Marty said to you earlier you need to give us the item number to be able to help you fully , otherwise it's hard to help you or anyone because the tech's do not know what exact engine you have and different engines have different issues!

Start up the engine and do a track signal strength test.  What number do you get?

The headlight flashing doesn't really sound good, but seems like everything works but motion.

When you press direction button does headlight go bright (rule 17) and when you press again does headlight go out, even though reverse light does not come on?

Hi GGG

Yes rule 17 lighting seems to work, also goes brighter when you increase the throttle but of course no engine movement.

I now have 2 boards with exactly the same problem, I tested a good board from another engine in the SD70ACE and everything including motion works fine, but the two faulty boards all give error "Unable to read EIS fields - Incorrect response from command" when trying to write flash file to engine, but writing sound file to engine runs through the whole process and engine starts up.

Would you guys think these two boards are faulty or stuck in some neutral or direction mode?

Ah, we found a possible cause, a bear piece of wire, one coming in from the bogie/truck, of about half an inch long and possibly had touched the chassis at some point, it was hidden under the dcc/dcs and 2/3 rail switch stand.  Now this means most likely these two boards have something burnt?

I don't know if MTH will come to the rescue after I managed to get them to send me the second board, but admittedly this engine had issues since the start, hence I'm not sure who and what the cause of this bare / frayed wire was.

I'm prepaired to mail both these boards plus two other simlar boards from previous engines but those are totally dead, to a willing or qualified tech in the U.S., as we don't have anyone willing to touch O gauge MTH in South Africa, that I know of, and I'm willing to let a willing techn see if he or she can get at least one of those boards working, if only reset in conventional required, well then great, and I then only want one working board back., or else at a repair cost take 2 boards back and have one spare.

Can anyone on here help?
