Backdrop Material
Each Fall when the ridgeline location of our mountain cottage [and my now dismantled 5-track Ceiling RR] colors up, I think of the backdrops the artist C. Sam has painted and used on his, and his Club's, mountain railway. Our place at 3,500 feet is hidden in the gap at the right of photo #1. Blood Camp Mountain at 4,600' altitude is shown in the far background and just beyond the airstrip is the Elk River Gorge which at times has been recipient of several overshooting small planes and one Sabejet[runway end in photo #2].
Carter County Tennessee, and westernmost home of the ET & WNC RR, is only 4 miles[7 via roadway] as the crow flies over 5,500' Beech Mountain [behind camera].
ET & WNC RR ["Tweetsie"] in N.C. was at Linville Gap 2 miles east of Elk River as the crow flies over Sugar Mountain.
