my MTH 2-10-4 santa fe steam engine using proto 2.0 is weak but all sounds are present. Battery is ok. I have tried several batteries and tested them for correct voltage but still sound is weak and the same intensity with all. Could it be a speaker problem or does it sound like the board has gone bad? This engine has seen little use. I have many proto 1.0 and 2.0 engines and they are all going fine. thanks,

What type of battery - 8.4 volt or 2.4 volt? If 8.4 volt, is the sound static when the crew is speaking?
If the battery is 8.4 volts type and crew sounds are staticy, the speaker needs to be replaced.
