Graphite-colored model paint is readily available, or I make mine with a dab of metallic silver in flat black - combine to the color of your liking, get a small brush and away you go. Either way it'll come out looking more like an actual smokebox than the satin-y factory paint.

Neolube wipes off, it's pretty messy stuff! I can see the boiler being quite a mess after some time. I think painting it with something makes the most sense.
Forum member Pennsy484 discusses how he darkened the finish on Lionel F7's in the thread referenced below. Perhaps his method could be adapted to tone down the smoke box shine on this new H10. Just a thought.

You would probably have to make the wash darker, and use painters tape to cover parts you don't want darkened, but other that that I don't see why not!
I'll wait until someone else does it to see how it comes out.

I have this H9 (not sure why they call it an H10) on order, and I saw it at York and, yeah, the smoke box is super bright.
I actually was thinking the same thing that I will do what I did to my tmcc F7s, airbrush on a mist of Dr. Ben's powder in 70% alcohol, let dry and spray with Krylon matte finish (or Testors Dullcoat might be better for that since it is flatter, but would want to test to make sure that combo works ok).
