Hello All,
I have a MTH Western Maryland Russian Decapod that has recently developed a PS-2 issue. She will start and run a few feet and then die. I have tried to do a total reset but am still having the issue. I get sound, smoke and lights but NO speed control at all and the chugging sound does not work when it is in forward or reverse. Again, after the reset, no change in any of the above issues. Ideas?

sometimes the tether can fail. It sounds like there's no signal from the tach reader getting to the board.
I'd agree. Sounds like a tether issue. Does this locomotive have the "wireless" drawbar or a regular tether?
This one has the wireless drawbar. I suspected this may be the problem so I bought a replacement and installed it, sadly no changes unless the one I put in was as bad as the one I took out.
the power supply sometimes can cause runnaway engine or speed control problems, i have see this issue with ps 2 3volt boards and the power supply can cause this. is it ai ps2 5 volt or ps2 3 volt board!

Alan, with the wireless drawbar it's surely the 3V board, that didn't come along until well after the 5V boards were history.
I use the MTH "brick" transformer power supply directly into the MTH DCS TIU so I am thinking that should be ok since I do not have this issue with any other locomotive. Sounds like I better send this one off for repair if it is not something simple. With Mike's on the way out, I am hoping we can still get some support in years to come. Thanks all!
